Sarcasm alert: NRA adds to economy

This is to thank the NRA for yet another boost to America’s economic recovery. Since a lot of people don’t understand satire or sarcasm, let me be clear: I am being as sarcastic as I can be.

Those of us dedicated to totally doing away with the Second Amendment (in the minds of paranoid gun owners) understand that the NRA has never been about protecting Second Amendment rights. It uses that ruse to build its membership and collect the fees that give it enormous political clout. The NRA’s real motivation is boosting gun sales and profits for those who manufacture and/or sell guns.

The ruse has worked beautifully. Last Christmas, for the second year running, guns were the most popular gift. They now come in children’s models and pink for girls.

We “hopey change” people were sure that the murder of 20 little children in Newtown, Conn., would result in public demand for some common sense gun regulations that the NRA puppets in Congress could not ignore. But, that hasn’t happened. There have now been 74 school shootings since Newtown on December 14, 2012 and not one tiny item of gun control has been passed.

Ergo, the NRA has spawned a whole new gun related industry, bullet proof gear for children. The CEO of Bullet Blocker, which makes bullet proof back packs for children, reports that his business is growing and that interest spikes with each new school shooting. A new start up is offering bullet proof cover up mats that go for around $1,000.

That price is out of sight for most parents but there is a buzz about schools picking up the tab. The NRA has now done its “duty” in creating a whole new gun product. School contracts would send profits through the roof.

As the president of Bullet Blocker (Joe Curran), I must point out a few GLARING lies (misconceptions to be nice about it). First, I have been in business for 7 years (Sandy Hook) was 1.5 years ago. I respect the NRA, but I do not work for them and they do not profit from me. We are not a "gun related" business, we are a safety business, defensive. Why would you be against a defensive measure? There is no mandate that states you must buy my product (here I could through in "like health care" but I will refrain). If Barbara wants her kids to have no defensive tool, so be it, but she should not have the right to regulate how I protect my children. Nowhere on my website, is there any positioning on guns or politics just defensive tools and if you are against my choices DONT BUY IT.

School or any shooting is a tragedy. Babs In this country you call home the constitution protects the gun. Tragedies happen when people, yes I said people decide to create a tragedy. The boogie man of the NRA is good for talking points but REAL short on a solution to figuring out why PEOPLE kill PEOPLE. Babs did you figure out that the word gun was not in my last statement. Letters like yours just keeps the problem from getting the attention it deserves by always deflecting to the gun as the culprit. To stop the killing look to the real problem. Get your head around it Babs - - - IT'S PEOPLE.

Reading79, you mean you don't consider someone committing suicide in the school parking lot in the middle of the night to be a school shooting?

Barbara, why not check with the fact checkers before you repeat the inflated numbers. Here's one resource on this issue:

BM, you are confused. Our right to keep & bear arms isn't granted by the NRA, all the NRA does is to see that the letter of the law is followed.

I am glad to see you are a follower of Moms Demand Action and their incorrect numbers. There have been 15 school shootings since Newtown, not 74.
