DECATUR — Red Barn Kitchen, a new farm-to-table restaurant, is scheduled to open at Decatur Airport on Jan. 2.
The restaurant will serve dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m on its opening night. After that, it will regularly offer lunch and dinner service from Tuesdays through Saturdays, and will be closed on Sundays and Mondays. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and dinner from 5:30 to 10 p.m.
Operations manager Alec Johnston said the restaurant encourages both walk-ins and reservations. However, since opening night is expected to be busy, he said reservations will take precedence.
"We are raring to go," Johnston said. "We are incredibly excited to open, and nervous. It's a good nervous, because we're ready to serve the public."
Red Barn Kitchen will take over the space formerly occupied by the Main Hangar Restaurant, which closed in June after owner Chris Cooper said his family decided not to renew their lease with the Decatur Park District.
Owner Dagan Stocks previously said Red Barn Kitchen will specialize in serving "comfort food" such as fried chicken and meatloaf. Johnston said the menu will change regularly, and expects a sample menu to be released "sooner rather than later."
Johnston encourages anyone with questions about the restaurant to call (217) 330-7777.
