DECATUR — Ann Patricia (Pat) Boehm, 96, of Irving, TX, formerly of Decatur, passed away peacefully Monday, September 30, 2013, after a wonderful life filled with family, faith, and love. Patricia is survived by her ten children, Mary Ann (Murl) Kelley of Peoria, IL, William (Ginger) Boehm of Owensboro, KY, Catherine (Bruce) Banks of Chesterfield, MO, Patricia (Tom) Pelger of Peoria, IL, Edward (Suzy) Boehm of Decatur, IL, Thomas Boehm of Dallas, TX, John Boehm of Davenport, IA, Rose (Greg) Hultgren of Dallas, TX, James Boehm of Peoria, IL, and Maggie (Bob) Boyd of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by her sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and a sister, Rosemary (Collins) Owens. She was preceded in death by her husband William F. Boehm, parents James and Rose Collins, brother James Collins, sisters Dorothy (Collins) Voorhees and Fran (Collins) Rudolf, and grandson Nicholas Boehm.
Patricia was born on June 24, 1917 to James W. and Rose H. (O’Brien) Collins. Pat graduated from the Villa de Chantal Academy in Rock Island, IL and from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA with a degree in Elementary Education. She pursued advance studies in education at the University of Illinois. Patricia married William F. Boehm on June 8, 1944. The love and faith that defined their marriage was evident to anyone who knew them. Patricia taught for many years in the Decatur Independent School District and inspired countless students with her contagious love of learning. During this same time, she raised and taught her ten children with love, patience, courage and faith.
Patricia was a devout Catholic who played an active role in her church. She was a founding member of the Sisters-in-Christ in Decatur, IL, a long-standing member of the Legion of Mary, and a teacher of Christian Doctrine at Our Lady of Lourdes parish. Patricia was often seen with a rosary in her hand praying for her large family, friends and the Catholic community. She had a remarkable and unwavering faith in God. As her family, we feel truly blessed and grateful to have had her in our lives. Teacher, mother, writer, and friend are only a very few words to describe this beautiful woman that was Pat Boehm. She will be greatly missed.
Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Patricia’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 4, 2013, at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay Street, Decatur, IL. A private family visitation will be held. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made to the parish of Ss. James and Patrick Catholic Church.
