DECATUR — Mattie Mae (Ford) Brown, 90, of Decatur departed this life on Saturday, June 29, 2013 in Heartland Health Care Center.

Mattie was born on June 1, 1923 in Felix, Alabama the daughter of Ada (Moore) Ford and Martin Ford. She married Elbert Brown, Sr. on August 14, 1949. He preceded her in death.

She was a long time member of the Community Church formerly Jackson Street Church of God where she was a church mother.

She leaves to cherish her memories: sons :Elbert Brown, Jr. and Charles (Beverly) Brown both of Decatur; daughters: Marian (Glenn) Pierson, Ada (Louis) Curry, Jenet (Percy) Meeks, Bianco Brown and Martha (Clarence) Taylor all of Decatur; sisters: Hattie Austin, Buffalo, NY and Lovenia (James) Hart of Birmingham, AL, 19 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; sisters-in-laws, Lena Brown of Decatur, Mary Brown and Margie Douglas both of Springfield, carekeeper, Chiquita Adams, special daughters, Vinettia Cason and Loretta McKinley, special friends, Catherine Davis, Ora Dean Young and a host of other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughters, Elberta Brown-White and Earnestine Brown, sisters, Ophelia Miree, Ella Birdsong, stepsister, Mary Rosser, brothers, Marshall Ford, Edkel Ford, Napoleon Ford, granddaughter, Cherie’ Taylor, great granddaughter, Neveah Howard, great grandson, Milan Bradfield.

Visitation 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, (July 7, 2013) at Community Temple Church of God (333 South Martin Luther King) Homegoing Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 8, 2013 at the Community Temple Church of God in Christ (759 S. Jackson St) with Pastor Elgin Hawthorne, officiating. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery. The family would like to extend a very special “thank you” to the physicians and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital and Heartland Health Care Center who cared so lovingly for Mom.
