DECATUR — Gary E. Gowan, 74, De Pere, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, Friday, October 05, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 22, 1938, to the late Orlie and Ruth (Hornstein) Gowan in Decatur, IL.

In his younger years Gary shared a love for fishing with his father and nephew Larry. They have a long history of stories which will continue to grow with future generations! If they weren’t out at the lake in Shelbyville, Gary and his Dad might be wearing a path to Indiana to pick up the best melons around and bring them back to share with Martha and friends in Decatur. His love for the outdoors, and his sister Pat, made Wisconsin a great place to be.

Gary spent the last seven years of his life with his special friend, Jane Nohr and their furry friends Patches and Murphy. He considered Jane’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a part of his own family. Being welcomed into Jane’s family made Wisconsin his home. He was so happy to be a part of their lives; they have truly been his angels.

Earlier in life, Gary traveled the country as a truck driver after serving his country in the Navy. After a full life, we are sure that Gary is looking for that big fish in the sky!

Gary will be sadly missed by his special friend, Jane Nohr and her children, Steve (Barb) Nohr, William (Darlene) Nohr, Kathy Byrne (Jerry Fels), and Karen (Butch) Schwartz, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Gary’s two daughters, Deborah Gowan Sheets (Decatur, IL) and Veronica Gowan (Louisiana); sisters, Patricia Walton (Appleton) and Martha Schultz (Decatur); granddaughter, Jamie Sheets; grandson, Vonn Ishee Jr; great-grandson, Jamylon Beasley; nephew, Larry Schultz Jr; nieces, Shannon Schultz-Miller and Heather Schultz (all of Decatur, IL), Michelle Bachaus (Neenah), Stacey Eierman (Oshkosh), and Jennifer Panning (Hamburg, MN); and their extended families.

Family and friends may call Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, from 3:00pm until 5:00pm. A memorial service will be celebrated on Tuesday at the Funeral Home at 5:00pm. To leave a special message for Gary’s family please visit,
