DECATUR -- Elnora Jacquline Harlin died on November 12, 2017 surrounded by her family. Elnora was born in Decatur on August 6, 1933 the daughter of Samuel Jackson and Lucy Della Day. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1951 and married Harold D. Harlin on September 28, 1951. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Elnora worked at Rath's Packing Plant and Swift Ice Cream Plant in the early 1950's. She was active in Girl Scouts and the PTA during her daughters' school years. She enjoyed spending time at the Decatur Senior Center where she worked in the kitchen and played bingo and bunko. She loved working in the garden and growing flowers.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Dwight) Cripe and Mary (Grant) Wright; grandchildren: Lisa (David) England, Lori (Kevin Mathias) Love, Aaron (Samantha) Wright, Michael (Lindsey) Wright, and Dara (Dustin Garrett) Wright; great-grandchildren Britney (Jarrod) Bennett, Jordan (Zach Hedding) Hord, Makynlee Wright and Madox Wright; great-great-grandchildren Wyatt Bennett, Remi Bennett, and Chloe Hedding. Also, surviving is step-grandchildren Marc (Stephanie) Cripe, Laura (Matt) Daugherty, Lynda Lambert, Kim (Kevin) Watkins, Tracie (Mark) England and several step great grandchildren. Sister Doris (Ed) Tomlinson and sisters-in-law Louise and Janet Day survive as well as many nieces and nephews.
Elnora was preceded in death by her husband, parents, infant daughter Michelle Lynn, brothers Virgil, Wayne, and Ronald Day; sisters Helen (Lee) Merriman, Vivian (Richard) Shures, Naomi (Raymond) Tomlinson, Louella (Chick) McClellan, and Lela (Rex) McCoy.
Elnora will be cremated and there will be no visitation. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Her love for family was unconditional; being surrounded by loved ones were her happiest moments. She was a jokester, a great cook, and a loving matriarch. She is already missed – Love you more.
