MONTICELLO -- Genevieve Ruth “Jenny” Perry, 96, died November 10, 2017 at the Bement Health Care Center.
Jenny was born February 24, 1921 in rural White Heath, IL the daughter of John and Callie (Artman) Valentine. She attended a local one room schoolhouse in White Heath and later graduated from Monticello High School. She married the love of her life, Harry James Perry on March 20, 1939. They were married 51 years before his passing in 1990. They started their home in the same house where Harry was born and lived there till she moved to town. She was active with the Centerville United Methodist Church where she was a Nursery and Sunday school teacher and Lay Leader for many years. Jenny was the original chairman of the Piatt County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee and very active in the Piatt County Home Extension where she received her 75-year pin. In the 60’s she became an LPN, then continued her education at Parkland College to become to become an RN and then received a degree in Education from the University of Illinois. She loved to travel, especially with Harry, her sister Wanda and her husband Walter. She loved to follow her children and grandchildren at the Fairs and school events such as band, choir, plays and sporting events. She loved her animals George and Foxy. Always one to help and encourage friends and neighbors, she did everything from calling to helping with their groceries. Her caring was easily seen from her smile and her concern as she asked how you were. A loving mother, grandmother, and friend, she will be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry, sister Wanda Wienke, and 3 brothers Dwight, Jerry, and Bill Valentine.
She is survived by her sons, Jim (Ann) Perry of White Heath, IL, Fred (Janet) Perry of Bement, IL and Dan (Susan) Perry of Decatur, IL; sister Twilia Mackey of Monticello, 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery. Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello is handling the arrangements.
