DECATUR -- Stanley T. Sowa, 69, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 in his home with his family by his side.
Stanley was born October 5, 1948 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Walter and Lois (Martin) Sowa. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Stanley was a cogeneration operator at Tate & Lyle retiring after thirty-seven years of service. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, animals, and nature. Stanley married Geaneen Augenstein in 1967. They proudly celebrated their fifty year wedding anniversary this year. Stanley leaves behind his wife Geaneen, sons Adam and Zac (Kristin) Sowa, daughters Casey Sowa and Kelly Sowa Griffin, brother John (Judy) Sowa, sisters Diane (Harold) Rueff and Teresa (Michael) Ryan, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Laura Rentfrow.
Memorial service to celebrate his life will be 6:00 PM Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
