CASEY - A Casey woman was injured after the pickup truck in which she was a passenger was struck by a semitruck Saturday on Interstate 70.
The Illinois State Police reported that a pickup driven by Jerry Downey of Casey was struck from behind by a truck driven by Amritpal Sing, 31, of Maple Heights, Ohio, at 7:40 p.m. near Casey. Catherine Downey, 64, was taken to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, for treatment of minor injuries.
Police said Sing was following a semitruck that was behind Downey's westbound pickup in the right lane when this semitruck quickly passed the pickup. Sing was unable to slow down in time to avoid colliding with the pickup. Sing was ticketed for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
