DECATUR — Foul play is not suspected in the death of a 3-month-old infant found unresponsive in Decatur early Monday, Macon County Coroner Michael Day said Tuesday.

Day said an autopsy was conducted Monday at the McLean County Coroner's Morgue, and preliminary results showed no indications of violence, trauma, abuse or neglect. A cause of death remains undetermined, he said, as further laboratory testing is required.

"This is standard protocol," Day said. "Often times when we're dealing with an infant death, completion of all testing involved is necessary for a final diagnostic."

It may take several weeks for the testing to be completed, Day said.

According to a Decatur police statement, police and emergency workers went at 1:20 a.m. to an address in the 3200 block of Condor Drive on a report of an infant not breathing. The infant was found unresponsive, the statement said, and was transported to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
