DECATUR — A Decatur burglary victim turned himself into a detective to help police identify the suspect who stole money from him.
Sworn police statements said the 38-year-old man had his money clip taken from his vehicle parked on Merchant Street on Jan. 16 while he unloaded boxes.
The victim later reviewed surveillance video and saw the male suspect open the door of his truck and reach inside. He later spotted the same man walking around downtown Decatur in the days that followed and photographed him.
Officers recognized the picture and interviewed the 20-year-old suspect Monday in the Macon County Jail. He allegedly admitted to the burglary, telling police he was “homeless and needed money to eat” at the time of the crime.
