DECATUR — A Decatur man charged with choking a pregnant woman unconscious in April was sentenced to 24 months probation, according to Macon County court records.
Justin D. Shavers, 25, pleaded guilty to the charge of aggravated domestic battery on Monday. As a result of a plea, charges of unlawful vehicular invasion, aggravated battery in a public place, domestic battery and aggravated battery of a pregnant victim were dismissed.
He was sentenced to 110 days in the Macon County Jail. Because he was given credit for time already served, Shavers was released from custody.
Attorney Jane Foster, who served as the prosecutor for this case, could not be reached for comment Monday.
A signed police affidavit said the 20-year-old victim told officers that she was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle parked on the 100 block of South Illinois Street when Shavers opened her car door, reached inside and choked her.
The victim, who was four-and-a-half months pregnant at the time, passed out, the affidavit said. Shavers then pulled her out of the vehicle by her ankle, dragged her inside of a house on East Main Street and punched her multiple times, the affidavit said.
