DECATUR — Tyree D. Jenkins, 36, of Decatur was sentenced to 12 years in prison Friday for attacking his girlfriend in October, Macon County State’s Attorney Jay Scott said in a news release.
The Oct. 16 incident left the victim with an injury to her face that required 10 stitches and other bruises and a broken nose. Scott called the attack "brutal."
Jenkins was on parole at the time and has convictions dating back to 1999, including domestic battery, aggravated battery and burglary.
Assistant State’s Attorney Regan Radtke asked Judge Phoebe Bowers for 18 years in prison. Jenkins will be required to serve at least 85 percent of his 12-year sentence.
