DECATUR -- A neighbor dispute involving a wandering dog ended up with police being called Sunday afternoon after a Decatur man appeared in his yard brandishing a shotgun.

The 43-year-old dog owner called police to the 1800 block of North Florian Avenue and said his neighbor, aged 64, was threatening to shoot the pet if wasn’t kept out of his yard.

Sgt. Chris Copeland said the neighbor later told police he only had a “dummy round” loaded in the shotgun and denied using it in a threatening way. He said he was concerned for his safety because the dog had made previous attempts to harm him. Copeland said patrol officers spoke to the neighbor about his behavior but no charges were filed.
