DECATUR -- A Decatur man told police his girlfriend had stolen both his cell phone and a prepaid debit card given him as a cash advance on his tax refund.
Sgt. Josh Sheets with Decatur Police said the 47-year-old man said he had left his card and his cell phone on the kitchen table of his home in the 2300 block of East Wood Street at 1:30 a.m. Friday. He said the girlfriend and a male friend she had with her left the house 15 minutes later and, at 3 a.m., he discovered the phone and card were gone, too. A check with the card issuer within hours of the theft showed some $268 had already been spent. The man said he had made repeated calls to his phone and left messages telling his girlfriend to return the card and phone, but she never answered.
