DECATUR — A Macon County Jail inmate who didn’t like his breakfast is facing a new charge after hurling his plastic serving tray at the cell window hard enough to crack the glass, the sheriff's office said.

“I learned that the inmate … had became angry about the quality of the food being served,” said a sworn affidavit from Sgt. S.E. Flannery. He said the incident happened at 7:55 a.m. Wednesday and the window repair is estimated to cost more than $500.

“The damage has caused the cell to be placed out of order for the next several days,” Flannery said.

The 36-year-old inmate was booked on a preliminary charge of criminal damage to state-supported property. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the state’s attorney’s office.
