DECATUR — Police moved swiftly to arrest an alleged armed robber who was still in her car when patrol officers intercepted her early Sunday.

Reports describe the robber as a “heavy-set” female who had held up the Circle K gas station at 1685 S. Baltimore Ave. at 5:13 a.m. after threatening the clerk with what appeared to be a gun and stealing cartons of cigarettes.

Officers were told she had fled the scene in a gold-colored vehicle driven by a female accomplice. Detectives say they caught them both within minutes after an officer spotted a car matching the description and pulled it over in the 1400 block of East Lost Bridge Road.

It's alleged a folding knife, which looked like a gun, was recovered nearby by a police dog after the weapon had allegedly been tossed out the vehicle window. Police say the cigarettes were found in the vehicle and the robber was later identified by witnesses. Both the alleged robber, 48, and her 50-year-old driver were jailed on armed robbery charges.
