DECATUR — Two men were arrested Wednesday in separate cases after Decatur police said they sought sex from undercover officers who were posing as minors.
Police said a 69-year-old Michigan resident had placed an online ad looking for younger petite females when a middle-aged detective from the police department started a conversation, posing as a 15-year-old girl. The detective established communication online, agreeing to meet the man and have sex in exchange for money, the Decatur Police Department said in a news release.
The man sent a message to the person he believed was the 15-year-old girl, telling her to shut off her phone’s location functionality and power down her cellphone before going to the meeting location, police said.
He arrived at the location Wednesday morning in a van that had a video camera set up inside the back and that could be curtained off for privacy. Police said he left the vehicle, approached and spoke to the undercover officer, at which point he was arrested.
He faces preliminary charges of indecent solicitation of a child, solicitation of a sex act and attempted production of child pornography.
The other suspect arrested Wednesday was a 52-year-old Decatur man, who police said posted an online ad seeking a younger male. A detective from the police department’s juvenile department struck up a conversation, posing as a 15-year-old boy.
The suspect arrived at the agreed-upon location Wednesday evening and approached the undercover decoy officer. He was arrested without incident and faces preliminary charges of indecent solicitation of a child and attempted criminal sexual abuse.
Both men remained in Macon County Jail on Wednesday night, police said.
