CHARLESTON — A 57-year-old man died Monday after being struck by a car while riding his bicycle at 7:15 p.m. at a rural intersection, the Illinois State Police said.
The accident occurred in Coles County at County Road 1300 E and Illinois 16, just west of Charleston on Monday night, police said in a news release.
The bicyclist was wearing dark clothes and did not have any lights on his bicycle, police said. He did not stop at the stop sign, and a car driven by a 51-year-old Paris man traveling east on Illinois 16 struck him, police said.
The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital but died of his injuries, police said. The crash remained under investigation.
