DECATUR — Police are investigating an armed robbery that was reported Monday morning at the MetroPCS cellphone store, 1909 E. Eldorado St.
Sgt. Steve Carroll said Tuesday that the robbery happened at 9:27 a.m. He said an employee of the store unlocked the building's front door, and then went to the back room where the merchandise safe is located.
Carroll said a suspect entered the store through the front door, put what the employee said "felt like the barrel of a gun" to her back and forced her to give him money.
He then fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash, Carroll said.
On Tuesday, a woman who identified herself the store's manager told the Herald & Review in a phone call that employees are "doing OK" after the incident, but declined to comment further or provide her name.
Carroll described the suspect as a male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and something to cover his face. He could not provide further information Tuesday afternoon.
Anyone who may have information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Decatur Police Department at (217) 424-2734 or Crimestoppers at (217) 423-TIPS.
