DECATUR — Police said pulling over a car in Decatur for a traffic violation Tuesday evening led to them seizing methamphetamine and other drugs and catching a drug dealer.

The 37-year-old man was arrested on three preliminary charges of possession of illegal drugs with intent to deliver; preliminary charges are subject to review by the state’s attorney’s office.

A sworn affidavit from officer Chad Ramey said the man’s vehicle was stopped around 5:35 p.m. at 20th and William streets. Ramey said a drug dog alerted to the vehicle and inside a first aid kit was found more than 16 grams of “ice meth” and a bag holding 68 Xanax pills. Another bag held assorted purple and blue pills, some shaped like mushrooms, which tested positive for “meth and/or ecstasy,” Ramey said.

The suspect, who is not yet listed as having a lawyer, bonded out of the Macon County Jail after posting $50,000 bail. He is due to be arraigned Jan. 12.
