DECATUR — Patrol officers investigating a report of shots fired on a Decatur street Monday night found six spent shell casings but no signs of injury or property damage.

Detective Sgt. Chris Copeland said witnesses described a white vehicle and a dark-colored vehicle being in the vicinity of the 900 block of East Whitmer Street before hearing gunfire about 8:35 p.m.

“One witness described seeing what they believed were muzzle flashes coming from one of the vehicles,” said Copeland, who said it was possible people in the vehicles had been shooting at each other.
