DECATUR — One traffic stop resulted in the arrests of two Decatur men Monday night on several weapons offenses and the recovery of a stolen shotgun, police said.

A sworn affidavit said an officer on patrol at East Division and North Main streets pulled over a van about 9:15 p.m. after the driver disobeyed a stop sign. A check of the vehicle’s registration showed it was suspended for an insurance violation. The 49-year-old driver was also on parole for a robbery conviction, and a search of his vehicle found the shotgun wrapped in a blanket and lying on the floorboards behind the front seats. Police said the gun had been reported stolen to the Champaign Police Department.

The passenger, 40, was also described as a convicted felon. Both men were jailed on preliminary charges of possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of a stolen firearm. Preliminary charges are subject to review by the State’s Attorney.
