DECATUR — A confrontation with a security guard and police at Eisenhower High School on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the arrests of a 16-year-old student and his 14-year-old brother, Decatur police said.

Lt. Shannon Seal said the 16-year-old was booked on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery after trying to punch the security guard and then shoving him. Seal said he brother was arrested on a preliminary charge of obstructing police after he tried to intervene as the older boy was being handcuffed.

Police initially were called to the school at 3:27 p.m. after a group of more than 80 students was seen by staff gathering across the street from campus. Seal said five of those students were fighting, but that broke up when police arrived.

The confrontation with the security guard happened when the 16-year-old came back onto campus and was told to leave. Seal said he threw a punch at the guard and then ran off but returned a short time later for another confrontation when the guard was shoved before police intervened to assist.

Preliminary charges are subject to review by the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
