ROSE HILL – A driver from Hidalgo and her Effingham passenger were both injured early Sunday when their car drove off the road into a ditch near the Jasper County town of Rose Hill.

State Police said driver Rebecca A. Wood, 34, had to be cut free from the wreckage and was later booked on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. She was taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment along with her passenger, Brandi Kingery, 39.

Written police reports said the accident happened about a mile south of Rose Hill at 2:16 a.m as Wood was northbound on county road 1200 East. Wood drove off the road to the right and traveled briefly along the ditch before overturning, the vehicle ending up lying on its passenger side.

In addition to DUI, Wood was also booked for improper lane usage and both she and Kingery were also booked on a charge of the improper transportation of alcohol.
