TAYLORVILLE — A Pana man was charged Wednesday by a grand jury with first-degree murder, for allegedly stabbing 29-year-old James Adam Bertin to death in a Pana house on Saturday, April 14.
In addition to the murder charge, Travis Gregg, 28, was indicted for mob action in connection with the slaying, said Christian County State’s Attorney Michael Havera in a news release.
Three other Pana residents were also indicted on charges of mob action: Dylan Carroll, 17, Lee Coke, 39 and Victor Pickel, 36.
If convicted of first-degree murder, Gregg is facing 20 to 60 years in prison, to be served at 100 percent.
Gregg is being held in the Christian County Jail on a $500,000 bond. The other defendants are each being held on a $250,000 bond.
A juvenile also has a criminal case in connection with this incident.
The investigation is being conducted by the Pana Police Department, Illinois State Police Zone 4 Investigations and Christian County Sheriff’s Department.
