Details of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich's first prison interview were published online late Monday by Chicago magazine and will appear in its October issue, done in a series of phone calls and emails over the summer with writer David Bernstein.

The interviews paint a picture of a former governor who remains unrepentant and unbowed, if bruised, as he serves his 14-year-sentence in Colorado.

Former H&R staffer dies after crash

The Sangamon County Coroner's Office confirmed that Phil Jacobs Sr. of Pana, a former Herald & Review staffer, died Tuesday after he was hospitalized following a collision last Monday.

Coroner Cinda Edwards said Jacobs, 80, was pronounced dead at 2:02 a.m. at Springfield's Memorial Medical Center. His death was related to injuries he suffered in the accident, Edwards said, and there will not be an autopsy.

Sheriff's deputy facing attempted murder charge

The Macon County Sheriff's deputy arrested after an armed stand-off at his Rosamond home is now facing a preliminary charge of the attempted murder of his wife.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office said Markes Rodgers has been placed on unpaid suspension. He was still being held in the Christian County Jail in Taylorville on Tuesday in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Piatt County chairman to run for 101st House seat

Though he loves his home in Monticello, Piatt County Chairman Randy Keith said he is ready to head to Springfield to represent his community and other parts of Central Illinois.

Keith, surrounded by dozens of friends and family outside the Piatt County Courthouse in Monticello on Tuesday afternoon, became the latest Republican seeking the soon-to-be vacant seat in the 101st House District.

Muffley School honors Patriot Day, grandparents

Muffley School observed Patriot Day on Monday with visits from firefighters, police and paramedics who brought their vehicles for students to explore, and spoke about their jobs and how 9/11 changed them.
