TUSCOLA — Douglas County sheriff's Sgt. Joshua Blackwell of Tuscola said he plans to run for sheriff in 2018.
A news release from Blackwell, said has been a deputy since 2006 and a supervisor since 2011. He said he will run as a Republican.
Current Sheriff Fred Galey, a Republican, hasn't announced if he plans to run for re-election.
The filing period for candidates to appear on the March 20, primary ballot is Nov. 27 to Dec. 4. Party nominees will then run in the Nov 6, 2018, general election.
