DECATUR – Joan Jett & The Blackhearts will headline the final night of the 2014 Decatur Celebration.
Decatur Celebration producer Lori Sturgill made the announcement Monday.
“Joan Jett & the Blackhearts have always been on my dream list,” Sturgill said. “Exciting news like this is really hard to keep under wraps, so we are breaking from tradition to make this special early announcement.”
Decatur Celebration is Aug. 1-3, 2014. The remainder of the acts are to be announced at a May 9 press conference.
Jett, 55, was a founding member of The Runaways, an all-female rock band that released five albums in the late 1970s. Her biggest hit single, “I Love Rock 'N Roll,” was her first release with The Blackhearts. It was No. 1 for seven weeks in 1982.
Jett's other Billboard top 10 singles include a remake of “Crimson and Clover” and “I Hate Myself For Loving You.”
Jett also co-starred with Michael J. Fox in the 1987 film “Light Of Day” and in 2000 appeared in the Broadway musical, “The Rocky Horror Show.”
Recent Decatur Celebration headliners have included Charlie Daniels (2010), Night Ranger (2011), Billy Ocean (2012) and Vertical Horizon/Blind Melon (2013).
