The Decatur Family YMCA is launching a Pedaling for Parkinson's program. Registration is open for the January class.
The program can help alleviate Parkinson's symptoms by helping people produce high physical effort with forced use and intensity, repetition and making them think, said Angela Foulke, the Y's health and fitness director. Four coaches are specially trained and certified by a National Parkinson's trainer to work with the class. The class is free for members and for the first eight weeks for non-members and will meet three times a week and is for patients over age 30 who have been diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson's disease. A medical provider consent and clearance form is required. Email Foulke at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (217) 872-3835, ext. 112.
