CASEY — A dropped cigarette instigated a semitruck crash Tuesday that sent one man to the hospital, Illinois State Police said.
Carlos Salcedo Camarillo, 57, of El Paso, Texas, was driving east on Interstate 70 near Casey when he dropped his cigarette, police said in a news release. He began searching for the cigarette and lost control of the truck, which caused him to swerve into the median of the road.
When he attempted to get back on the road, his truck overturned and landed on its driver's side in the median. Salcedo Camarillo was taken by ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. The extent of his injuries was unavailable.
Police cited Salcedo Camarillo for improper lane usage.
