South Shores School fifth-graders have adopted the Decatur Police Department this school year and kicked off the class project with a visit from police in September.
As part of their developing relationship, the fifth-graders on Wednesday hosted 'Pop with a Cop.' It was a fun, informal event in the classroom that let the students ask questions and officers share their stories.
This event was one in a series the school will host with police throughout the year. "Our kids here are inner-city kids, and I think we're trying to make a positive experience with the police department and try to help these kids," teacher Greg Smith said during officers' first visit in September.
