PANA — The city of Pana will receive a $1 million federal grant to make water infrastructure improvements, U.S. Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin said in a news release Thursday.

The funding comes through the Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program, a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s office of Rural Development, that allocates funding for projects to ensure clean and reliable drinking water systems in rural communities.

“Every community deserves to have clean and safe drinking water,” Durbin said in the news release.

The Pana project makes improvements to the city’s water treatment plants to mitigate an existing health hazard for the city of 5,800 residents, the news release said.
