BLUE MOUND — An 80-year-old Stonington woman was killed Tuesday morning in a crash on Illinois 48 when the car she was riding in was struck by a vehicle that entered the roadway from a side road, one mile north of Blue Mound.

Mary E. Blome, of Stonington, was a passenger in a northbound car at 7:38 a.m. Tuesday when a westbound car driven by a 16-year-old Blue Mound resident entered the state highway from Andrews Street Road without yielding the right-of-way, Macon County Sheriff Tom Schneider said.

Blome was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 9:21 a.m.

The drivers of both vehicles and two passengers in the 16-year-old's vehicle were transported to Decatur hospitals where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the car Blome was in was a 77-year-old Stonington man. The passengers in the other car were a 41-year-old man and 3-year-old girl.

No citations have been issued, pending an investigation by the sheriff’s department’s Accident Reconstruction Team.

Illinois 48 was closed for about two hours Tuesday morning to clear the roadway and investigate the accident.

The names of the drivers and other passengers were being withheld pending the notification of family members.
