What: Veterans Day Salute
When: 7:30 p.m. Friday
Where: Kirkland Fine Arts Center, Millikin University
Description: Musical salute to veterans featuring a guest conductor, Col. Thomas Rotondi Jr., who is an alumnus and the former leader and commander of the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own.”

What: H3F Veterans Day 5K Fun Run/Ruck March
When: Noon, Saturday (10 a.m. registration
Where: Fairview Park Large Pavilion
Cost: $20, or $15 if you run in combat boots; Free for kids under 12
Description: This is the first event of its kind sponsored by Heroes Helping Heroes, a Decatur-based nonprofit group. The group says all of the proceeds from this event go towards helping active duty servicemembers and veterans in Central Illinois.

What: Veterans Day Program
When: 7 p.m. Saturday
Where: Salvation Army, 229 W. Main St.
Description: The Veteran's Assistance Commission of Macon County, Inc.’s annual Veteran's Day program, with featured speaker Pat McDaniel, a Decatur City Councilman and Vietnam veteran.

What: Skip Perryman Memorial Benefit
When and where: Saturday, 10 to 11 a.m. sign-ups for fun run in honor of Perryman and other veterans; Noon to 9 p.m. at VFW Post 99, 3920 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
Cost: $5 for adults; kids 15 and younger are free
Description: Benefit to help pay for food and medical expenses for Skip Perryman, a U.S. Army veteran and quartermaster for the local VFW 99, who died in March. The event will include a bags tournament ($25 team entry fee), chili cookoff ($5 to vote and eat a bowl of your favorite); food ($5/plate); live music all day; raffles and a silent auction; and other kid-friendly activities.

Applebee's: Get a free entree at participating locations. Items vary by location.
Bakers Square: Get a choice of buttermilk pancakes, french toast or a Belgian waffle at participating locations.
Bandanas Bar-B-Q: Veterans eat free on Saturday, up to a $10 value.
Bar Louie: Bar Louie is offering a free flat bread or burger on Saturday.
Bob Evans: A variety of select items, including french toast, pancakes and country-fried steak, will be available free for vets and active duty military members.
Buffalo Wild Wings: Get a free small order of traditional or boneless wings and a side of fries.
Chili's Grill & Bar: Get a free meal on Saturday (meals vary by location).
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store: The restaurant is raising money for Operation Homefront as well as giving out free slices of its double chocolate fudge Coca-Cola cake.
Denny's: Active, inactive and retired military personnel can get a free Build Your Own Grand Slam from 5 a.m. to noon.
Golden Corral: Anyone who has served in the military can get a free dinner on Monday, Nov. 13 (not Veterans Day, which is Nov. 11).
Hooters: Get a free entree from a special Veterans Day menu. Items include wings, a Hooters Burger and a buffalo chicken salad or sandwich. A drink purchase is required.
IHOP: Get a free order of red, white and blue pancakes on Friday, Nov. 10 (not Veteran's Day). IHOP will also donate $1 toward Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation, an organization that provides college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent in the line of duty, for each order of red, white and blue pancakes purchased during November.
Krispy Kreme: Get a free doughnut and small coffee, no purchase or ID required.
Little Caesars Pizza: Get a free $5 hot-and-ready lunch combo from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
LongHorn Steakhouse: Get a free dessert or appetizer (no other purchase required). Those dining with the veteran or active duty military member will also get 10 percent off their bill.
Olive Garden: Get a free entree from a special Veterans Day menu.
Perkins Restaurant & Bakery: Get a free Magnificent Seven meal, which includes two eggs, two pieces of bacon and three pancakes.
Red Lobster: Get a free appetizer or dessert.
Red Robin: Get a free Tavern Double Burger and bottomless steak fries.
Ruby Tuesday: Get a free appetizer.
Starbucks: Get a free tall brewed coffee.
Texas Roadhouse: Get a free lunch entree from a special Veterans Day menu. Items include a 6-ounce sirloin steak, pork chop, and a pulled pork dinner.
TGI Fridays: The restaurant is offering a free lunch entree up to a $12 value between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Vets and active duty military members will also get a $5 coupon for a return visit.
