Public high school biology teacher drops bullfrog into boiling water. Bullfrog instinctively jumps out to save his hide. With skin in the game even bullfrogs know when they're in hot water. Take note, America!

Dropped into cool water that is slowly warming over the flame of a Bunsen Burner, the bullfrog kicks back to suntan and sip margaritas, leisurely basking in his self-perceived comfort zone. As water heats, this oblivious self-satisfied bullfrog eventually boils in his own broth. Take note, America!

Public school scenario: administrators accuse this dedicated teacher of Joseph Menglele-style atrocities inflicted on innocent science-lab animals, thus violating bullfrogs' constitutional rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Teacher is fired under public education's application of progressive "social justice." Frogs are people too.

2016 AARCC test scores show only 11 percent of District 61 students are performing up to their grade level. Ominously, this passes for education in Decatur public school classrooms. Apparently, little is taught and even less is learned at an ever-escalating cost of society. Meanwhile, community institutions continue to make excuses for public schools' failure to educate. Take note, America!

With teacher union money and support, progressive democrats refuse to offer vouchers to students trapped in failing public schools. This "no choice" monopoly of public education is in effect the modern-day version of the Undergound Railroad that cynically leads not to freedom, but to the the continued "slavery" of government dependence.

At every opportunity, hopping-mad progressives rant and riot against our traditional values as itemized in the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights and the book that lefties love to hate, the Holy Bible. Drop these red-hot fire-spewing America-haters into an ocean and the water would instantly boil over. Now that's a classroom biology experiment worth its weight in sauteed frog legs. Bon appetite, students!

Don Carmichael, Decatur
