As a Decatur resident for the past 18 years, I have attended the annual Decatur Celebration every year. This year with the new wristband fee and fence, I had heard various different opinions on how the changes can negatively affect the people of Decatur and change the Decatur Celebrations in the future.
Some think the fee is unnecessary and is only giving money to the city, when in reality, the wristband fee helped to give money for future Celebrations and give the festival a safer environment.
This year’s Celebration was different on a number of aspects but they were not in any way negative. The Decatur Celebration needed these changes in order for the festival to be a success. The new wristband fee and fence is the best thing to happen to the Decatur Celebration and needs to be put into place for the future years, especially after the success of 2017.
Even though there could be some financial issues for some Decatur residents, the positives of a safe environment and better entertainment are worth the new costs.
