DECATUR – Millikin will find out today which track athletes made the cut for the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Jacob Segrest, Tyler Kimbrough, Christian Zenon and R.J. O'Connor put itself in good position when it set a school record Thursday in winning the event at the Gregory Invite at North Central College.

The relay team won in 41.32 seconds. Its previous best time of 41.42 ranked 12th in the nation.

Segrest placed sixth in the long jump with a best of 22-5. He already had ranked 11th in Division III in the event.

Golf

Buente gains golf honor

For the third straight season, Millikin men's golfer Blaine Buente was named to the NCAA Division III PING All-Region Team for the Central Region.

Buente has a 74-stroke per round average with seven top-five finishes, including a win in the Elmhurst Spring Invitational. He finished his Big Blue career with a fourth-place finish at the CCIW Championships.

Softball

Three earn recognition

Three Millikin softball players were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region Team.

Millikin junior catcher Alyssa Voegele and freshman centerfielder Kailey Lyons were named to the 15-player Great Lakes Region All-Region Second Team while freshman shortstop Kalli Farmer was named to the All-Region third team.

Voegele hit .305 in 2017 with six home runs and 40 RBIs.

Lyons was recently named the CCIW Player of the Year and selected to the all-conference first team.  Lyons hit .427 on the season with 15 stolen bases. Lyons had 17 RBIs.

Last week, Farmer was named to the CCIW All-Conference Second Team after hitting .363 with 24 RBIs.

Baseball

Crews, Bruce named

Devin Crews and Mason Bruce represented the Big Blue on the CCIW all-conference baseball team.

Crews was selected to the first team while Bruce was named to the second team.

Crews was Millikin’s top hitter, batting .362 while tying the school record for hits in a season at 59. Crews hit four home runs with 28 RBIs. He Crews led Millikin with 12 stolen bases and scored a team high 35 runs.

Bruce hit .360 on the year with 58 hits. Bruce had 10 doubles, three home runs and 30 RBIs. He hit .368 in CCIW play.

In CCIW play, Bruce hit .368 with 12 RBIs.
