DECATUR — The Millikin men's basketball team returned from a nine-day break and defeated Finlandia University 78-63 on on Thursday.
In its first game since Dec. 19, Millikin had to fight off the after effects of those extra Christmas cookies. The Big Blue shot 48 percent from the field but struggled from 3-point range, going 2-of-13.
The Lions shot 39.6 percent from the field while making 8-of-24 from 3-point range. But Millikin forced Finlandia into 18 turnovers while committing only five. The Lions won the rebounding battle 38-30.
Millikin lead 37-31 at halftime and lead the entire second half. The Big Blue's biggest lead of the game was the final margin of 15 points.
Millikin had a balanced attack with Zach Fisher, Elijah Henry and DeVante Harrell each scoring 18 points. Henry added a team-high eight rebounds along with three steals and two assists. Harrell had six rebounds and three assists.
Austin Carlson led the Loins with 10 points.
Millikin improved to 7-4, while Finlandia fell to 2-7.
The Big Blue will host Principia College at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Three more wins will give Millikin its most wins since the 2008-09 season.
