DECATUR -- One quarter bit the Millikin women Wednesday night.
The Big Blue hung around No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan for three quarters, but a 19-10 Titan advantage in the second quarter sent Millikin to a 79-62 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin loss at home.
"Pretty darn good evening on many fronts," Millikin women's basketball coach Lori Kerans said. "We competed very well for three quarters. The kids hung in there and were competing all the way through the end."
Millikin top scorer was Devin Curry with a double double of 23 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Hildebrand had 16 points and five rebounds. Emily Schultz had eight points along with 10 rebounds.
The Titans were 7 of 28 (25 percent) from three-point range. Millikin won the rebounding battle 39-32. The Big Blue were limited offensively committing 29 turnovers. Illinois Wesleyan had 12 turnovers.
"The glaring stat for us was turnovers," Kerans said. "Illinois Wesleyan had rock-solid defense. When we handled the ball well, we scored well. Against the best team in the conference, they showed excellent resilience and drive."
