DECATUR — Millikin women's basketball team couldn't have asked for its home opener to go much better.

The Big Blue romped MacMurray in a 91-51 win Tuesday night.

Devin Curry led the Big Blue with 19 points followed by Cassie Somers with 14 and Yanni Saddler with 10. Haley Toohill and Sarah Bailey each had nine points and six rebounds. Freshman Jordan Hildebrand had a team high seven rebounds with six points. Saddler, Curry and Toohill each had four assists.

The Big Blue dominated the game throughout, taking a 29-6 lead.

"In the first half MacMurray had been scoring and rebounding well, but defensively we did a good job," Millikin women's coach Lori Kerans said. "We were up 47-18 at halftime, and we read defensive scouting reports very well."

The Big Blue shot 46 percent from the field, including hitting on 40 percent from 3-point range, making 10 of 25 attempts, while winning the rebounding battle 48-34.

Liz Kruemmelbein led MacMurray with 17 points and six rebounds.

Millikin improved to 2-1, while the Highlanders fell to 1-2.

Millikin will play again on Nov. 27 at Eureka College.

Millikin men 79, Webster University 66

ST. LOUIS — The Millikin men's basketball team picked up its second straight win to open the season.

Millikin shot 58 percent from the field including hitting on 64 percent (18-28) in the second half. Millikin was 9-15 (60 percent) from 3-point range.

Webster hit on 48 percent of its shots, but went 4-22 from beyond the arc. Millikin dominated the boards for the second straight game, out-rebounding Webster 35-22.

Elijah Henry had another big game for the Big Blue, scoring a team-high 20 points. He had seven rebounds and five assists. DeVante Harrell added 13 points. Sophomore Jordan Cunningham had a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Senior Michael Charles II had 11 points, including going 3-for-3 from 3-point range.

Rodson Etienne led Webster with 19 points followed by Josh Johnson with 14.

Millikin improved to 2-0, while Webster fell to 1-2.

Millikin will head to Colorado Springs, Colo., for a Thanksgiving Tournament. The Big Blue will face Sarah Lawrence on Friday.
