The management of the new Residence Inn by Marriott in Forsyth have been trying to generate excitement about the opening of the hotel. A grand opening celebration and Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday. During a tour this week, I saw what the hotel at 230 Lucile Ave. offers and ways it is designed to be different than other choices of places to stay in the Decatur area.
I was struck by how much thought is going into the design of hotel rooms and other areas of the building to provide convienences for guests. Director of Sales Logan May said the hotel is intended to provide the comforts of home, many of which wouldn't have been thought about even a few years ago. Places to plug in cell phones and other electronics have been strategically placed in the rooms and in the lobby while eating breakfast or attending an evening social hour, which May said are held Monday-Wednesday.
“It gives guests a chance to interact with other guests and possibly generate business leads,” May said of the social hours.
While May said the hotel has many comforts of home, I couldn't help but think it offers even more than that. The hotel provides a grocery shopping service, which seems convenient especially for guests staying for longer periods of time but having other places to be. May said the goal is for it to be all about the experience at the hotel. Rooms are designed for guests to be the most productive, as May said sometimes stays could last weeks or months at a time. Some travelers will be on business while others are families who May said find the two bedroom suites particularly comfortable.
