Celebration memories: Heartless

The return of Heart tribute band Heartless brought back another Decatur Celebration memory.

In 2010, the band made its first and almost last appearance here. While they were playing on a windy day, the awning shade on their stage collapsed. I was there with co-workers Adam Casner and Hugh Sullivan, who were filming the show.

In the video, we see the awning collapse and the band continue to play.

At 1:05 (and then intermittently through the rest of the song), you see me. (Blue hat, blue shirt.) This was early in the days of cellular photography, and I have my little flip phone out and am taking pictures.

People saw this video, and gave me good-natured grief about just standing and taking photos. My response was easy. In the video, you see at least six people helping put the awning back in place. They were all people who knew what they were doing. They didn't need me (or anyone from the audience) offering to help. They had it under control.
