ADM's North American headquarters are located in Decatur.

DECATUR — Archer Daniels Midland is moving several employees in its milling division from Overland Park, Kansas, to the North American headquarters in Decatur.

"Decatur has been the heart of our operations as a company since 1969, and we are excited to add even more capabilities to the strong team we have built here," said Chris Cuddy, president of ADM Carbohydrate Solutions, in a statement.

ADM, based in Chicago, is Decatur's largest employer and has about 32,000 workers worldwide.

The milling division makes flours and mixes. Risk management, trading and technical service teams will continue to be based in Overland Park.

Cuddy said they're making "significant capital investments to grow the business long term" and see strong potential in milling business.

"Last year, we completed the modernization of our mill in Enid, Oklahoma, and we expect to begin operations at our new high capacity, modern mill in Mendota, Illinois, later this year. Realigning our resources and taking advantage of other synergies within our Carbohydrate Solutions business unit help put ADM Milling in an even better place to thrive and grow long term," he said.

The company in a statement said ADM combined "corn processing and wheat milling business under one business unit last year, and we see significant synergies and benefits in combing the sales and commercial teams in one office location as well."

ADM earlier this month said it will be seeking voluntary early retirements and may eliminate individual jobs as part of a restructuring.

A $175 million purchase of Florida Chemical Co., a citrus oils and flavors manufacturer, was completed last month. In December, it purchased the former Meda Pharmaceuticals manufacturing facility at 705 E. Eldorado St. in Decatur.

ADM reported 2018 annual revenues of $64.3 billion and a profit of $1.8 billion. The company is releasing first-quarter financial results on Friday.
