DECATUR — Joel Fletcher, general manager and advertising director of the Herald & Review, has been named philanthropy specialist at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.
"I’ve enjoyed my nearly 13 years at the Herald & Review, and it’s been a pleasure working with so many talented coworkers and good friends. I’m really looking forward to starting my new career with St. Mary’s, and extremely thankful for the opportunity," he said.
Joel and his wife Stacey moved to Decatur with daughters Amanda and Lindsey in 1987. He was station manager at radio station WDZ, general manager of the Cromwell Radio Group, and vice president/general manager of NextMedia Group, now Neuhoff Media, before coming to the Herald & Review in 2006.
"In the seven years I have worked with Joel, I have always been impressed with this professionalism, his enthusiasm and his passion for the Herald & Review," said Michelle Pazar, interim publisher. "While he will be deeply missed at the newspaper, I am so grateful he will be sharing his talents with another community cornerstone."
Fletcher also has been chairman of the Greater Decatur Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Baby Talk board of directors. He currently serves on the St. Mary's Foundation board.
"I love this community and all that St. Mary’s is doing within the community. It’s a perfect fit for me," Fletcher said.
He will be working with donors and building relationships "in our community to benefit St. Mary’s Hospital and the Decatur community at large," the hospital said in a statement Thursday.
“We are very excited to have Joel join our team,” said Julie Moore, executive director of philanthropy, advocacy and community relations, in a statement. “His care for our community is unmatched and the relationships he has built over the years will be a great asset to our ministry.”
“We can’t wait to put Joel’s talents to good use,” said EJ Kuiper, interim president and CEO at St. Mary’s Hospital. “His attitude and personality will make a great addition to our foundation team.”
He starts at St. Mary's on Oct. 8.
