SPRINGFIELD — The jobless rate in Illinois showed a slight improvement over the past year in a July jobs report released by the state on Thursday.

Unemployment stood at 4.2% statewide, down .3% from July 2018, the Illinois Department of Employment Security says. The number is based on federal labor data. 

The Bloomington metro area added 200 non-farm jobs, to 89,900, and had a unemployment rate of 4.1%, down .6%.

The Decatur metro area had 52,300 jobs, 700 more than a year before. The jobless rate was 5.4%, down .6%
