DECATUR — When Raul Sustaita and his wife, Elizabeth, closed La Fondita two months ago, he said it wouldn't take long for the space at 285 E. Ash Ave. to be filled. He also hinted that the new tenants would specialize in Mexican fare.
While a new restaurant hasn't opened, the sign in the window offers a glimpse of what's to come.
It reads: “COMING SOON! Tacos & Tequila” with El Corral written in smaller lettering. Another panel thanks the Sustaitas and La Fondita for the memories they provided during their 15 years in business.

The Herald & Review reached out to the owners of El Corral seeking details. A person familiar with the project would only say that it was happening, that the food offering would be more in line with traditional Mexican meals and that more details would be forthcoming. A building permit for the project was issued by the city of Decatur last week.
El Corral is a popular Mexican restaurant at 3655 E. State Route 36 near the Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum.
