A sign at the Burger King at 1099 E. Eldorado St. in Decatur is shown on Wednesday.

DECATUR — The Burger King at 1099 E. Eldorado St. has been closed by the Macon County Health Department.

A "Notice of Closure" sign with a time of 11 a.m. Wednesday was posted on the restaurant's door. It said the operating permit was suspended until further notice.

A call to the restaurant on Wednesday went unanswered.

A March inspection of the restaurant by the health department found fruit flies under a sink and other issues that needed corrective action. A March 21 follow-up inspection said the issues had been addressed.

The Herald & Review has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the county agency seeking documents related to the closure.

The Burger King opened in December 1986.
