The status of Sol Bistro in downtown Decatur is unclear.

DECATUR — Last week, everything was on track.

Plans for a wedding rehearsal dinner at Sol Bistro in downtown Decatur were confirmed. Fifty-five guests, a fajita bar in the upper room and the size and number of tables needing to be decorated.

“We were good to go,” said Shelly Coslow, mother of the groom.

Then came rumors on social media saying Sol Bistro had closed permanently.

A screenshot of a post by co-owner Paul Maisel announcing the closure is also circulating online. The Herald & Review has been unable to independently verify the origin of that post. The business has been dark since Sunday, and no one is answering its phone.

News of the social media post from her daughter prompted Coslow to call the business, to no avail, and to reach out to friends and associates to confirm the news.

“This is a wedding. This is the biggest day in people's lives,” she said. Calm turned to panic. Panic turned to action.

By midday Tuesday, an alternate site for the rehearsal dinner, Coz's in Mount Zion, had been secured.

“God provided for us,” Coslow said. “We are back in business.”

Coslow can only hope the outcome is just as positive for other families. During a conversation with someone from the business last week, she was told there was another rehearsal dinner scheduled for Friday night and a shower on Saturday.

As for the status of Sol Bistro, there has been no official word.

Maisel, in an email to the Herald & Review, directed questions to a public relations firm who said information would be forthcoming.

Maisel teamed up with Cody Flanders, the owner of Vanderlaan's Automotive Repair Inc., and local accountant Mike Wilhoit, to purchase the popular downtown business from Paco Greenwell in October 2017.

The new venture provided a mix of old favorites from Greenwell and new creations from Maisel, who also served as head chef. He was voted among the area's best chef's in the Herald & Review's Best of Readers' Choice Awards for 2019. It also was voted among the best all-around restaurant, best burrito, best fine dining, best horseshoe, best salads, best taco and best vegetarian.
