DECATUR — For those interested in unique and handmade arts, The Laurel and The Linden recently opened with rare pieces created and designed in the shop.

The art store is at 2938 Mount Zion Road in Decatur. It is nestled among other businesses such as Kenney’s Ace Hardware, Butcher Block Plus and Black Iron Coffee Co.

Lindsey Harrison owns The Laurel and The Linden with her mother Laura Harrison. The team began their store at Heroic Age Studios in Mount Zion under the name L&L Studio.

“It was like an incubator for our business,” Lindsey Harrison said. “We outgrew it and moved out here.”

The Harrisons opened The Laurel and The Linden this month. Everything in the shop is handmade. Lindsey is a metal-smith. She creates the jewelry found throughout the store. She also paints the one-of-a-kind pieces created from coffee.

Laura Harrison designs and creates stain glass wine bottles and window ornaments. The shop displays and sells a small line of artsy and retro clothing.

“We had more people in the first two weeks then we did in a year at the old location,” Lindsey Harrison said.

The Harrisons host a special opportunity for customers once a week. Art and Ag Market is an event with various merchants displaying their works. The businesses are set up from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays near The Laurel and The Linden shop.

Items include produce, honey, lip balms and works by local artists. There lso are yoga events. “We have different stuff every week,” Lindsey Harrison said.
